Matlock beer festival and Rugby 10's

7th August 2010 - Cromford Meadows

Come and join us for a full day of Rugby, and stay for an evening of food and live music at the 2010 Matlock Beer Festival. Those that wish to come just for the evening are of course most welcome.
The Midnight Pumpkin Trucks are guests of honour at this years Matlock beer festival on 7th August 2010.

Back by popular demand for their second Matlock Beer Festival, the Midnight Pumpkin trucks will be headlining the evening entertainment. We have over 60 different real ales and a full stable of ciders for your drinking pleasure, and our bbq will be providing hot food to help replace all those calories burnt up dancing to the Midnight Pumpkin Trucks.

See the 'beer festival' tab for ticket information.

There are two great bands lined up for your listening and dancing pleasure. The first band of the evening - are something of a scoop for Matlock beer festival and they are gaurenteed to kick the evening off and get you all rocking. Back again after stunning us in 2008, its the The 99's

The 99's

High to the north-east of Manchester lies Saddleworth, nestled in the foothills of the Pennines in the borderlands of Lancashire and Yorkshire, its name sadly forever tarred with the memory of the Moors Murders. As fashionable locations go you’d have to concede that there are many better, but pride extends beyond shallow fashion, and melodic indie-rock trio The 99s have sidestepped the easy route of lumping themselves in as another Manchester band and instead are proud to proclaim their Saddleworth origins.

The three 99ers developed their musical identity through time together at school, and grew into a band when bassist James Loughlin and drummer Adam Quigley recruited singer and guitarist Johnny West from seeing him at his stints in the local folk clubs. On a practical level there were three seats in Adam’s van. Fate decreed that the line-up was complete.

The two years since have seen appearances on Clint Boon’s XFM show and the prestigious In The City festival which, added to heavy local gigging, has established the trio as a live song-writing force. 2009 saw the band take their show to London, with three successive gigs sold out at venues such as the Water Rats and Club 229, with much industry praise. Their unassuming but potent melodic rock has grown in confidence and stature, mining their own musical borderlands of pop, folk and rock, drawing inspiration as much from the folk and brass bands of their hometowns as it does from The Beatles. Their sunny, Byrds-like melodies take you far from any notions of grim Northern mills and moorland.

"These boys have beautiful music down to a tee. And yes, its indie. And yes, there are probably other bands out there doing the same sort of thing. But Theyre certainly not doing it as well as this." (Right Here Right Now zine)

The Midnight Pumpkin Trucks

Our headline band - back by very popular demand, are the Midnight Pumpkin Trucks. All those that were at the festival last year will need no convincing, but for people that dont know them, this is how they describe themselves on their website.

What's so special about a pumpkin gig?

Well, for starters their opening number is always an epic, which is greeted with enthusiastic cheers from the audience. The band then rips through a set of covers from the cream of British/American rock/pop - songs from Oasis, The Fratellis, Blur, Green Day, the Who, Razorlight, Robbie Williams, The Beatles and many more are dispatched with skill, energy and a little tongue in cheek humour. Pat Gardner knows how to win the crowd over, and is able to do so with the assistance of stylish lead guitarist Leigh Bosworth and solid bassist Kevin Smith, with Sam Watson providing the pyrotechnic drumming.

This band knows how to enjoy themselves and whilst they sound as good as this they will keep on packing the folks in. So when you go to a pumpkin gig you get a guaranteed evening of quality music with excellent visual entertainment which comes complete with their own professional sound system and light show. The MIDNIGHT PUMPKIN TRUCKS are a favourite at live music venues, Beer festivals, Nightclubs etc... Do the band play at private parties? YES....... When B.B.C TELEVISION wanted a band for their own Christmas bash - ....they chose the MIDNIGHT PUMPKIN TRUCKS.

Below is the list of beers that we managed to get for last years festival. This year looks like it is going to be even better. Bring a thirst and brace yourself for some excellent ales sourced through Springhead brewery, and some of the best and award winning traditionally produced ciders - supplied by Chris Rogers at 3 Cats Cider.

Now in its third year the action kicks off at 1000am with 16 teams competing in this fast and furious format of the game. All aiming to follow in the footsteps of previous winners 'Hooters' and your hosts Matlock RUFC.

The teams travel far and wide to compete in what is proving to be an excellent pre-season warm up tournament, with clubs from Yorkshire, Lincoln, durham, Manchester and London complimenting the local Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire sides.
